Belt Drive For 4x?

Mtb innovators Nicolai have made their entire hardtail range compatible with the Gates Carbon Drive system. This includes the BMXTB frame which is designed for 4x and dirt jumping.

The system is claimed to be virtually maintenance free, very quiet and far lighter than a conventional chain drive. It is also said to be very responsive with amazing pick up and acceleration. The belt is made from high tensile carbon fibers embedded in polyurethane.

The two companies have formed the Gates Nicolai Team and have signed frenchman Quentin Derbier (5th in Bromont) and swiss rider David Graf (7th at the worlds) to head up their 4x team. David Graf has been testing the system on the track and it'll be interesting to see if it makes onto the world cup stage next season. It could be run as a single speed or paired up with an internal gear hub.
